Roofing Nail Guns

Typically roofing nail guns are tools reserved for professionals and not your general do it yourselfer. Most of use only need a hammer and some nails for the project we do at home. But using a hammer to put in a roof would take forever. So if your next project is putting on a new roof, maybe you really should look at a roofing nail gun. It will make the chore quicker and easier whether you are a pro or an amateur.

So why get one. Well the gun simply fires a nail into wood or whatever material it is specifically made for. Total time to "hammer" in a nail is just a fraction of a second. So when you have a lot of nails to put in, really you have no other choice, unless you like spending your weeks on top of your roof. These guns are extremely useful. They can also be very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.

The easiest and cheapest roofing nail guns are spring loaded. Their design is simple yet ingenious since they use high tension springs to blast the nails from the chamber into the wood. It may seem like a crude design, but you can't deny its effectiveness. You'll still use a little bit of electrical power to pull back the springs so they can fire with enough force to get the nail into the wood.

Solenoid roofing guns are a little different in that they use electromagnetic polarization. You pull the trigger, and the polarization in the gun reverses. This pulls the nail away from the mechanism and forces it into the wood. Many other types of tools and machinery use this technique which has been proven to work over a long period of time. There are not many pieces to break in these tools. That means you won't be left with a worthless tool when you need it most. Spring loaded models can wear quickly.

The last gun we'll talk about is the pneumatic gun. This is the most popular model used by professionals. Air is compressed where it gathers large amounts of power. The pressure is used in two ways. First it holds the hammer in place so the nail is not fired. Then when you pull the trigger the passageway opens, letting the compressed air and the nail out with great force. One reason for their popularity is that they only need a standard air compressor to run. These compressors can be powered in a lot of different ways and the pneumatic roofing nail gun does not need to go into the main power source. This means a lower operating cost, more reliability, and more convenient. It also makes them safer should a light rain or mist start to fall.
